Job Description, Duties, Interview Questions and Salary for Barman or Bartender Position:

A bartender, also known as a barman, is a professional who serves alcoholic beverages and non-alcoholic beverages in a bar, tavern, pub, or other establishment that serves drinks. The job description of a bartender involves a range of duties and responsibilities that revolve around providing excellent customer service and ensuring that patrons have an enjoyable experience.

One of the primary responsibilities of a bartender is to mix and serve drinks to customers. This includes creating a variety of cocktails, pouring beer and wine, and making non-alcoholic beverages such as sodas and juices. Bartenders must also know how to measure, pour, and mix ingredients accurately to create the perfect drink.

Aside from serving drinks, bartenders are responsible for keeping the bar area clean and stocked. This includes washing glasses, restocking liquor and mixers, and ensuring that the bar is well-organized. Bartenders must also be knowledgeable about the different types of alcohol, their tastes, and how they are made.

Another important aspect of a bartender’s job is to provide excellent customer service. This involves greeting customers, taking orders, and engaging in friendly conversation. Bartenders must also be able to handle difficult customers and diffuse potentially tense situations.

In addition to these duties, bartenders may also be responsible for handling cash and credit card transactions, managing inventory and ordering supplies, and keeping track of sales and tips. Overall, a bartender’s job is dynamic and requires a range of skills and knowledge to be successful.

Bartenders will be responsible to prepare and serve drinks to customers. able to mix and match ingredients to create classic and innovative drinks to customers’ needs and expectations. The purpose of this position is to interact with the hotel guests and ensure they have a great experience at the BAR or lounge.

Bartenders should maintain positive guest interactions while accurately mixing and serving beverages to guests and servers in a friendly and efficient manner.


  • Interact with customers, and take orders for drinks and snacks.
  •  Plan and present bar menu.
  •  Serve snacks and drinks to the customer.
  •  Check the identification of the guests to make sure they meet the age requirements for the purchase of alcohol and tobacco products.
  •  Mix ingredients to prepare cocktails and other drinks.
  •  Mix drinks, cocktails, and other bar beverages as ordered and in compliance with hotel standard drink recipes.
  •  Prepare alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages.
  •  Service Wine and Beer to guests.
  •  Arrange bottles and glasses to make attractive displays.
  •  Assess customers’ needs and preferences and make recommendations
  •  Ability to Sell or influence others for upselling and suggestive selling.
  •  Provide recommendations and suggestions to guests for choosing Drinks and Snacks.
  •  Serve customers in a friendly and helpful manner.
  •  Keep the bar counter and work area neat and clean at all times.
  •  Guide guests on resort activities, dining options, and general resort and Regional information.
  •  Determine when a customer has had too much alcohol and if required refuse any further serving politely.
  •  Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of food and beverage products, menus, and Promotions
  •  Handle and move objects, such as glasses and bottles, using hands and arms.
  •  Clean up after customers and clean the work area.
  •  Clear ashtrays as and when required.
  •  Wash glassware and utensils after each use.
  •  Maintain a clean working area by sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning glass doors and windows, etc. if required.
  •  Perform physical activities such as lifting and stooping.
  •  Maintain liquor inventory and consumption.
  •  Collect payment for drinks served and balance all receipts.
  •  Handle an assigned house bank and follow all cash handling procedures as per hotel standards.
  •  Prepare inventory or purchase requisitions as needed to replenish supplies.
  •  Ensure that the assigned bar area is fully equipped with tools and products needed for Mixing beverages and serving guests. 
  •  Stay guest-focused and nurture an excellent guest experience
  •  Comply with all food and beverage regulations
  •  Perform Other duties as and when assigned by the hotel management.

POSITION TITLE: Barman / Bartender

REPORTS TO: Restaurant Manager / F&B Manager 


Must be able to communicate in English writing and speaking and other languages are advantages. Good personality and Positive interpersonal skills are required. Food Handlers Card


Graduates with bachelor’s degree and/or diploma in hotel or other related field. Computer Knowledge and experience in MS Office programs.


Previous bartending experience is required in a Mid-scale or Luxury property. experience in handling Point of sale (POS) terminals and Stock and inventory management software.
