Standard Operating Procedure for Engineering Uniform Issuing and Control

Eng. Department Uniform Issue and Control Standard Procedure:

  • The Chief Engineer or Engineering manager should ensure that proper uniform is used by the engineering staff which is complementary to the respective jobs the engineering staff is performing.

  • Uniforms inventory are maintained in a way that will ensure clean, pressed uniforms are available to each eng. staff for each shift.

  • The Chief engineer and Housekeeping Manager shall choose the uniform colour. style and material used for the engineering staff.

  • Engineering Staff shall wear uniform according to their trade and job needs.

Below things are not approved for uniforms.

1. Any Type of Jeans.

2. Any type of Casual or sneakers shoes.

3. Caps or Hats unless required by the working condition.

4. Fancy or large belt buckles.

5. Long sleeve apparel is worn under a short sleeve shirt.

6. Any type of graphic designs or words on coats or jackets.

Different Type of Uniforms issues for engineering Staff:

1. Chief Engineering / Engineering Manager:

  • A business suit or similar work uniform.

  • If its a work uniform chosen then the same should be different in style and colour from other eng. staff.

  • This difference is to distinguish the person in authority.

  • Black or brown polishable shoes shall be worn which matches the uniform or suite issued.

2. The Assistant Chief Engineer / Asst. Engineering Manager:

  • The Assistant Engineering Manager normally wear a suit or similar work uniform.

  • If its a work uniform chosen then the same should be different in style and colour from other eng. staff.

  • This difference is to distinguish the person in authority.

  • Black or brown polishable shoes shall be worn which matches the uniform or suite issued.

  • This difference is to distinguish the person in authority in absence of the Engineering Manager.

3. For Ken-fix it, Maintenance, Refrigeration Technician:

  • Colour coordinated work pants and front button shirt.

  • Black or brown polishable work shoes.

  • Steel toes may be worn if desired.

4. Painters and Polishers:

  • White painter pants and front button shirt.

  • Footwear shall be hard-soled shoes or half boot.

  • Care will be given to footwear to alleviate the buildup of paint.

5. Carpentry and Masons:

  • The uniform chosen shall be of a fit where loose clothing cannot be drawn into tools and equipment.

  • Shirts which do not button down the front (tee shirts) are unacceptable when worn as the primary covering.

  • Footwear shall be supplied by the individual and will be hard-soled black or brown polishable shoe or boot.

6. Gardening and Landscaping:

  • Climate, weather conditions and scope of work shall be considered when choosing the appropriate uniform.

  • A uniform which is unique to the geographical area should be the result.

  • Appropriate shoes should be supplied to the employee.

7. Other Office or Eng. Desk Staff:

  • The clerical or desk staff shall conform to the guidelines set for other departments standards.

  • Exceptions would be individuals whose job contains more than clerical duties.

  • The uniforms for these positions should conform to the engineer, maintenance, refrigeration criteria.
