Main Duties and Tasks of the Engineering and Maintenance Department

The Engineering and Maintenance Department is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of all equipment and machinery within a company. They play a critical role in preventing breakdowns, reducing downtime, and maximizing production output.

Some of the main duties and tasks of the Engineering and Maintenance Department include performing regular inspections and maintenance on equipment, troubleshooting and repairing any issues that arise, and ensuring that all equipment is up-to-date and compliant with safety regulations.

Additionally, the department is responsible for managing the inventory of spare parts and supplies necessary for repairs, coordinating with outside contractors for specialized repairs, and providing training and support to other employees on the proper use and maintenance of equipment.

Duties and Tasks of the Engineering and Maintenance Department

  1. Preventive maintenance program. 
  2. Carry out proposed renovation of guest rooms or public areas.
  3. Fire and Safety procedures.
  4. Any Emergency Procedures.
  5. Back-up System (Diesel Generator (DG) Sets and UPS Backup)
  6. Fire alarms and their monitoring.
  7. Fix any water leaks (isolation points).
  8. Maintenance calls logging and action.
  9. Ensure all types of equipment are checked regularly for proper and efficient operation.
  10. Regular tests of fire prevention system.
  11. Maintenance request forms filled out for all equipment or areas in need of repair
  12. All guest requests are given priority.
  13. Any electricity and light failure.
  14. Emergency lighting.
  15. Plant and Equipment Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM). 
  16. Hot water boiler check. 
  17. HVAC (Heating, ventilating, and air conditioning) check.
  18. Cold water storage tanks.
  19. Water PH level monitoring for swimming pool and other water sources.
  20. All Lifts and Escalators.
  21. Bathroom exhaust fans.
  22. Swimming pool.
  23. Health club and Spa equipment.
  24. Monitor any external or 3rd party vendor maintenance jobs.
  25. Building structure.
  26. Roof condition.
  27. Windows.
  28. Pigeon Wires.
  29. Energy saving.
  30. Meter reading.
  31. Maintenance and monitoring of solar panels.
  32. PABX and Telephone Systems.
  33. Energy saving committee. 
  34. BMS (Building Management System) operation.
  35. Hotel Facility Management systems operation.
  36. Environmental norms and regulations monitoring.
  37. Go Green initiatives.
  38. Waste disposal/ recycling.
  39. Laundry machines, washers, dryers, calender machines, etc..
  40. All engineering department staff to wear the proper uniform.
  41. Grooming standards are to be followed by the engineering team.
