Job Description For Hotel Finance Controller

JOB TITLE : HOTEL CONTROLLER

REPORTS TO: General Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:

The hotel controller is responsible for the financial management of the hotel. This includes overseeing the accounting, budgeting, and forecasting for the property. They also work with the hotel management team to create and implement strategies to improve the financial performance of the hotel. 

HOTEL CONTROLLER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Overseeing the accounting, budgeting, and forecasting for the property.

  • Working with the hotel management team to create and implement strategies to improve the financial performance of the hotel.

  • Prepare monthly financial reports for the hotel ownership.

  • Control the automated general ledger entries from the front office to the back office.

  • Consult with the general manager about periodic reports.

  • Assist the hotel manager in developing the annual budget.

  • Monitor actual / budget performance to ensure compliance with approved budgets and authorities, among other things.

  • Monitor the company's liquidity position

  • Follows and analyses fund flows and monitors cash flow; requests funding through the corporate office; and participates in discussions about the company's financial position.

  • Accountable for maintaining accurate bookkeeping in the general ledger and sub ledgers.

  • Incoming/outgoing payments, internal control activities such as daily turnover inventory flows, key performance figures calculation, and periodic group reporting

  • Conduct regular inventory counts.

  • Encourage the proper execution and application of guidelines, administrative processes, and internal controls.

  • Perform or assist with minor human resource management tasks.

  • Performs any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

PREREQUISITES:

QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS:

  • Strong accounting skills are required, as well as a college degree in accounting, business administration, or inventory management.

  • A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent problem-solving abilities.

EXPERIENCE:

Experience in a financial management role in a hotel or other hospitality property is a plus.
