Standard Operating Procedure for Engineering DG Set / Diesel Generator Operation
The Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for operating diesel generators or DG sets in hotels is crucial in ensuring that power supply remains uninterrupted even in the event of a power outage.
Firstly, the operator must ensure that the diesel generator is in good condition and ready to operate. This includes checking the fuel level, oil level, coolant level, battery condition, and air filter. Any discrepancies must be reported to the maintenance team before starting the generator.
Before starting the generator, the operator must also ensure that all non-essential loads are disconnected from the system. This will prevent overloading of the generator and ensure that it only supplies power to critical loads such as elevators, emergency lighting, and fire alarm systems.
Once the generator is started, the operator must monitor its performance closely, ensuring that it operates within the manufacturer’s recommended parameters. They should also be on the lookout for any signs of malfunctions or abnormalities such as excessive vibration, abnormal noise, or an increase in temperature.
Regular maintenance of the generator is also vital in ensuring its longevity and reliability. The SOP should include a schedule for regular maintenance, including oil changes, filter replacements, and load testing.
In conclusion, the SOP for operating diesel generators or DG sets in hotels is an essential document that outlines the safety precautions and procedures to be followed when operating the generator. Adhering to the SOP ensures that the generator operates efficiently, safely, and reliably, providing an uninterrupted power supply to the hotel.
Diesel Generator (DG) Operation Standard Procedure:
For Diesel Generator Manual Start:
- Engine start/stop switch in local position.
- Voltage up/down positions selector switch in Local position.
- Engine Speed raise/lower switch in local position.
- Push the start button to start the engine.
- Check the oil pressure after the engine starts.
- Start DG scrubber.
- Start fans cooling pump and radiator.
- The jacket temperature should be between 80 deg. c – 90 deg. c.
For Diesel Generator Autostart:
- The engine starts automatically when the power supply fails.
- Check the individual DG set panel whether the panel positions are put in the auto position.
- Engine control switch on DC ON position.
- Mode selector switch on Auto position.
- Engine START/STOP switch in local position.
- Battery charger on mains position.
Routine Checklist for Generator (DG) SetSet: Allowing an item to go from a soft or liquid state to a firmer more solid state.:
- Diesel is subject to contamination and corrosion within one year.
- Regular generator set exercise is highly recommended to use up stored fuel before it degrades.
- Engine exercise is recommended to be executed at least once a month for a minimum of 30 min.
- Testing Batteries, weak or undercharged starting batteries are a common cause of standby power system failures.
- Check the coolant level during shutdown periods at the specified interval.
- Check the exhaust system in case there are leaks along the exhaust line they should be repaired immediately.
- OilSeveral kinds of oil are used to make salad dressing;e.g. olive; peanut; sunflower; walnut; grape se... drips and other issues are easy to spot and take care of when the engine is nice and clean.
- Visual inspection can guarantee that hoses and belts are in good condition.
